Spamwatch Update: Week ending Saturday 31st December 2011

The last week of the year saw 23 spam e-mails being trapped by my filter. Of these 14 were for pills and potions, including "miracle" weight loss pills. There were 2 spam e-mails for replica watches at "discount" prices. The remaining 7 spam e-mails were all supposedly from Santander Bank and all were trying to extract bank account details on the pretext of "security" upgrades. What utter rubbish! Talking of rubbish, all of this weeks rubbish has joined the rest of this years in the dark depths of cyberspace!

Spamwatch Update: Week ending Saturday 24th December 2011

This week's total was 19 spam e-mails intercepted by my filter. Of these 12 were for pills and potions, one was for a dodgy dating website and one was for replica watches. The remaining 5 spam e-mails were all in the "phishing" category, all being attempts to get bank account information from the unwary. Four of these purported to be from Santander and the other claimed to have been from Halifax bank, but all were clearly fake. What is certain is that all of this week's rubbish has now been shredded beyond recovery!

Spamwatch Update: Week ending Saturday 17th December 2011

This week saw 18 spam e-mails getting caught by my spam filter. Of these 3 were for pills and potions and one was for replica watches. There were two spam e-mails for very dubious dating websites. The remaining 12 spam e-mails were all in the financial category. Of these, 3 were for "advance fee fraud" scams and the other 9 were all supposedly from banks seeking bank account details. All of this week's spam has simply been dumped into the depths of cyberspace.

Spamwatch Update: Week ending Saturday 10th December 2011

This week saw 7 spam e-mails arriving. Raking through the rubbish, I found 2 spam e-mails were for pills and potions and one was for a Russian dating website. The remaining 4 spam e-mails were all in the "phishing" category with two supposedly from the co-op bank and one from PayPal, seeking account details. The final spam e-mail was again a fake, this time claiming to be from Western Union and again wanting the recipient to part with bank account details. I parted with the spam and it vanished forever, with a click of the mouse.

Spamwatch Update: Week ending Saturday 3rd December 2011

This week saw 10 spam e-mails arriving. The big surprise was that this week only one spam e-mail was for pills. There was also one spam e-mail for replica watches and two for a dubious Russian dating agency. There were 3 spam e-mails for advance Fee fraud scams and the remaining 3 spam e-mails were all attempts to get bank account details and all claimed to be from the Co-operative Bank. So another batch of rubbish has been dumped into the wheely bin of cyberspace!

Spamwatch Update: Week ending Saturday 26th November 2011

This week saw 16 spam e-mails being trapped in my filter. Of these 8 were for pills and potions of various types, no doubt wither with odd side effects or having no effect at all. There were two spam e-mails for dodgy Russian dating websites and an one spam e-mail for an equally dodgy replica watch outfit. The remaining 4 spam e-mails all fell into the "phishing" category, with one supposedly from Apple asking for confirmation of billing details, one Claiming to be from Halifax Bank seeking confirmation of account details and two spam e-mails offering Student Loans and which required bank account details to be provided as part of the application - a sure fire recipe for having your account emptied! So another batch of spam has been added to the virtual bonfire in the bottom of my virtual garden!

Spamwatch Update: Week ending Saturday 19th November 2011

This week saw 14 spam e-mails being trapped by my spam filter. Of these 7 were for pills and 2 were for a dubious dating website. The remaining 5 all fell into the "phishing" category and all were aimed at getting account information. There were two claiming to be from Apple seeking iTunes account details and the other three claimed to be from the Northern Rock Bank, just sold by the Government this week, so perhaps that was why there were the target. The only target they hit was the dustbin of cyberspace.

Spamwatch Update: Week ending Saturday 12th November 2011

This week saw a mere 4 spam e-mails coming my way, an significant reduction and one that is most welcome. This is the lowest weekly total since I started tracking the amount of rubbish coming my way in April 2005. There was one e-mail for pills and one for a very dodgy dating website. There was also one spam e-mail for a gambling website and the last spam e-mail claimed to be from Halifax bank, seeking account detail confirmation. As with all spam e-mails these have now been zapped out of existence.

Spamwatch Update: Week ending Saturday 5th November 2011

This week saw 18 items of spam being trapped in my filter and of these 12 were for pills and potions. There was one spam e-mail for replica watches and one spam e-mail from a dodgy Russian dating website, aimed at enticing men to part with money in order to get a Russian "mail order bride". The remaining 4 spam e-mails were all in the "phishing" category with two of the spam e-mails claiming to be from Santander Bank and the other two spam e-mails claiming to be from the Alliance & Leicester bank. All were clearly fake and met the usual fake for such e-mails that head my way - stuffed into the virtual shredder!

Spamwatch Update: Week ending Saturday 29th October 2011

This week saw 15 spam e-mails being caught in my defences, a reduction on the amount of rubbish coming my way when compared with the last couple of weeks. There were 9 spam e-mails for pills and potions and 2 spam e-mails for "fake" watches instead of the more usual "replica" watches. There was one Russian spam e-mail, something I have not seen for quite a while. The remaining 3 spam e-mails were all in the "phishing" category, with two claiming to be from Northern Rock and one from the Halifax bank. This week's rubbish has now been dumped into the darkest depths of cyberspace, never to be seen again!

Spamwatch Update: Week ending Saturday 22nd October 2011

This week saw a similar number to last week in the amount of rubbish being aimed in my direction with 27 spam e-mails being intercepted by my filter. Of these, there were 16 spam e-mails for pills and potions. These were followed by the 6 spam e-mails that were pushing replica goods. These were all for famous brand names but items that would no doubt fall apart after a few days or if you used them at all. The remaining 5 spam e-mails were all financial scams of one sort or other. There were three claiming to be from Halifax bank all trying to get bank account information. The last 2 spam e-mails were old fashioned "advance fee fraud" scams, which I though had died out, but obviously not. So all of this spam has been treated to a good, old fashioned click of the mouse on the "delete" button!

Spamwatch Update: Week ending Saturday 15th October 2011

This week saw quite an increase in the amount of spam getting trapped by my filter, with 29 spam e-mails being intercepted. Of these 13 were for pills and potions f various types. There were 7 spam e-mails for replica watches. The remaining 9 spam e-mails were all attempts to get bank account information out of the unwary. Halifax bank seems to be the favourite for these as 5 of these e-mails claimed to be from them, but were clearly fake. So another batch of rubbish has gone into the icy wastes of oblivion.

This week saw 8 spam e-mails arriving. Of these 6 were for pills and potions. There was one spam e-mail for replica watches and the last one was a bogus e-mail purporting to be from Halifax and aimed at getting account information. All it got was putting through the virtual shredder of cyberspace!

Spamwatch Update: Week ending Saturday 1st October 2011

During the week, 11 spam e-mails were caught by my filter. Of these 7 were for pills and potions, mostly for Viagra type substances , although there was one for a "miracle" slimming pill. The only miracle would be how slim your wallet would become! There were two spam e-mails for replica watches and one for a very dubious dating website. The remaining spam e-mail was a "phishing" attempt, this time aimed at customers of the Co-operative bank. All of this week's spam has now been dumped into the virtual shredder of cyberspace, never to be seen again!
